Description
The kitchen garden walls and attached octagonal building, located approximately 60 meters northeast of Thickthorn Hall, date from the early 19th century. The walls are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring some ramped sections at the corners. There is a gateway on the west side, which includes a rendered lion couchant and two stone balls on the entablature above the arch, though one ball is missing. Another gateway is present on the south wall.
The attached octagonal building, which is about 12 meters across, is also made of red brick, primarily in Flemish bond, and has an octagonal roof covered with pantiles. The east and west faces of the building show vertical joins in the brickwork, while the north-east and north-west corners, as well as the west face, are constructed in English bond. The north face features a square opening made with honeycomb bricks, and there are square openings on the south-east and south sides that have been blocked. The east face has a wide low doorway on the left and two square openings above it, which contain fixed lights with glazing bars, all set beneath segmental arches. This structure is included for its group value.
