Description

The barn, likely a former tithe barn, dates to 1688. It is constructed as a timber-framed building with walls that have been weatherboarded, sitting on a brick and flint plinth. The east gable features a moulded brick aedicule bearing the date 1688. The roof is pantiled. There are two full-height timber projections on the south side, positioned opposite the entrances, and a lower, single-story outshut to the north. The barn’s structure comprises seven main trusses, incorporating collars and braced ties with queen struts located only opposite the entrances. The principal rafters are collared and arch-braced to the main studs. Butt-purlins and wind-braces are also present. The walls are close-studded along the sill-beam, with occasional tension braces.
