Description
Nos. 2 and 9 St. Miles Alley are 17th-century houses, with a date of 1883 noted on a plaque above No. 4. The buildings underwent extensive restoration in the 20th century. The ground floor of No. 2 is constructed of brick, while the first floor features a rendered timber frame. The adjacent Nos. 3 and 4 are rendered as well. The houses have a pantile roof and are two storeys high, with No. 2 jettied and presenting a gable end to the street.
No. 2 has six first-floor windows. The entrance door is positioned at the extreme right and is flanked by plain pilasters, an architrave, and a hood. To the left of the door is a single sash window with glazing bars, and a small casement window is located at pavement level to the right of the door, which lights a barrel-vaulted cellar beneath the pavement of Rosemary Lane. The first floor features two sash windows and one sash window in the gable, all with glazing bars, and ornate bargeboards. The Rosemary Lane elevation includes a central door with a hood on scrolls, one casement window, and two dormers.
Nos. 3 and 4 have a central door with plain pilasters, an architrave, and a hood. There is an additional door to the left side, which has moulded pilasters and an open pediment. These houses also feature sash windows with glazing bars, two small stair-lights, and two gabled dormers with sash windows and decorative bargeboards. The properties are complemented by three footscrapers.
