Description

Pykerell's House is a former hall-house dating from the 15th century onwards, with renovations following World War II. The building features a combination of flint-rubble and rendered surfaces on the street range, with brick elements. The first floor has a rendered timber frame and is topped with a thatch roof, which is partly pantiled. The structure has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys high, with a jettied first floor.

On the street range, there are two windows on the right side of the first floor, a central blocked doorway, a sash window to the right, and a casement window to the left. There is a passage entry at the extreme left. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars, and the overhanging eaves are supported by ironwork brackets. A fascia cornice is located beneath the pantiles on the left side.

The rear range has three first floor windows, with doors located at the extreme right-hand side and an off-centre door to the left. The right-hand door features a brick pointed arch. The windows include sash, mullion, and transom styles, along with a frieze.

Inside, there is a timber-framed wall with two doorways that separate the rear range from the street range. A full-height stone oriel arch with shield spandrels is present, along with a fine queen-post roof that has moulded ties and upward raking struts extending from the queen-post to the rafters, featuring pierced upper spandrels.
