Description
The Church of St. Martin at Oak is a Grade I listed former parish church, now redundant and used as a hostel. It dates from the 15th century and is constructed of flint with stone and brick dressings. The nave is covered with pantiles, while the chancel has a slate roof. The building features a west tower, nave, and chancel, along with a south aisle and porch. The tower is truncated and unbuttressed, with a 20th-century west door and a window above it. The nave has four bays, and the south aisle, built around 1491, includes four-light Perpendicular windows with transoms in the outer lights. The chancel, rebuilt around 1440, has two bays and is supported by four-shaft piers with double order diagonals and four-centre arches in the arcade. The roof is arch-braced, with the lower brace springing from wall posts.
