Description
Nos. 8 and 9, The Close, are a pair of houses built in the late 18th century. They are constructed of red brick and feature a pantile roof. Each house has three storeys plus a semi-basement and consists of three bays. There is a narrow passageway bay on the extreme left. The outer bay has a panelled door flanked by pilasters and a simple architrave, topped with a semi-circular fanlight that has Adam style tracery. There are steps leading down to the door, which are accompanied by simple ironwork railings. The passage bay contains a plain door with a sash window above it. Throughout the houses, there are sash windows with glazing bars and rubbed brick flat arches, and the structure is finished with a modillion cornice.
