Description
The building is a Tower House located at the rear of Number 58, dating from the early 17th century, possibly even earlier, and is contemporary with Number 54, known as the Manor House. The structure features a combination of brick and flint rubble on the lower part, with brick above, and is situated on a split-level site with three storeys and a basement.
The rear elevation includes a flight of 20th-century steps leading up to a 19th or 20th-century plank door on the right, which is topped by a three-centred arch under a moulded brick pediment. There are moulded brick string courses on the first and second floors. To the right, there are four-light mullioned and transomed brick windows, although one has been replaced by a wooden two-light window on the second floor. Blocked two-light windows are present to the left, all featuring pediments. A large window on the first floor has an iron-framed casement with rectangular leaded lights and pale green glass. The building is topped with a crenellated parapet with brick coping and a higher stair turret to the left, along with a 19th-century chimney at the north-east corner.
The right side elevation showcases a three-centred moulded brick arch leading to a cellar door, a wooden mullioned and transomed window on the ground floor, and rebuilt four-light brick windows above. The interior is mostly from the 19th century, including stairs that occupy the site of the original staircase. There is one chamfered and stopped girder on the first floor and a barrel-vaulted cellar.
The high retaining wall and adjoining tower to the south-west are constructed of flint and brick rubble, featuring vertical brick lacing, brick coping, and three tapering buttresses. While some repairs have been made, much of the brickwork resembles that of the tower.
