Description

A pair of houses, built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of red brick with a hipped slate roof and a central brick chimney. Number 33 has two windows on the first floor and is accessed via a side entrance. The front door is panelled with a partly-glazed upper section, flanked by plain pilasters and fluted columns supporting a decorative band of triglyphs and a hood with a moulded cornice. Number 35 has a similar doorcase, with panelled sides, and a recessed wing to the right. The windows of Number 33 have small, multi-paned glazing bars, while Number 35 has larger, simpler sash windows, all set beneath flat brick arches. A later 19th-century extension to the left of Number 33 features a square-fronted bay with wooden mullioned and transomed windows under arched brickwork. There is a red brick boundary wall to the east of Number 35, which includes a tablet reading “Erected /1822/W. Shalders.”
