Description
The Printing Museum, formerly known as Jarrold's Printing Works, is a Grade II listed building located on the east side of Whitefriars. This brick-built undercroft likely has historical ties to the Carmelite Friary and dates back to the late 13th and 14th centuries, featuring walls from this period and 15th-century vaulting. The structure is constructed from flint and brick, with some stone dressings. It is positioned at right angles to the street and is flanked on the south and east sides by 20th-century warehouses. The north wall of the building stands two storeys high and showcases diagonal and cross-ribs that spring from wall piers. There is a wide end-chamber that may connect to a 15th-century stair entry located in the north-east corner. The building is designated as Grade II due to its significance as part of an important group within the City Walls and is also scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
