Description
16 Bedford Street is a former building of unknown use that is now a shop. It is built against a 16th-century wall and underwent renovations in the 20th century. The first floor features rendered timber-frame construction, while the rear wall is made of flint-rubble and brick. The building has a pantile roof and is situated on a corner site. It has two storeys plus an attic, appearing as three storeys from Swan Lane. The long facade presents one window to Bedford Street and two windows to Swan Lane. The corner shopfront, added in the 20th century, has an entrance from Swan Lane. Sash windows with glazing bars are present throughout, and rusticated quoins adorn both facades. A gable dormer with a sash window faces Bedford Street, and there is a gable-end visible in Swan Lane. The rear wall parallel to Swan Lane features a large 4-centre moulded brick arch, which was originally part of the west gable of a building that stood at right angles to the current street frontage.
