Description
No. 2 Bridewell Alley, formerly listed as No. 23 Bedford Street, is a building from the 17th century that has been completely refaced and altered in the 20th century. It features a rendered exterior with a pseudo timber-framing design at the first floor and a pantile roof. The building occupies a corner site and stands three storeys tall, with a jettied first floor overhanging Bedford Street. It has three bays facing Bedford Street and a long single bay on Bridewell Alley. The 20th-century shopfront includes a central door on Bedford Street. The windows are sash style, with glazing bars present only in the top sash. The first and second floor windows on the Bridewell Alley facade were part of the re-facing of No. 4 Bridewell Alley. A fascia cornice completes the design.
