Description
No. 25 Bedford Street is a former shop that dates back to the late 16th century, with alterations and heightening occurring in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed and rendered, topped with a pantile roof, and is situated on a corner site. It has three storeys and features a jettied first floor. The first floor has three widely spaced windows, while the corner shopfront is distinguished by attached fluted columns and a small hood supported by brackets. The shopfront extends across Nos. 1 and 3 Bridewell Alley. There is a corner door and an additional door to the right, which has been blocked with 20th-century glazing. The building has sash windows throughout, featuring glazing bars within simple surrounds, with four located at the first floor. A fascia cornice adds to the architectural detail. Inside, there are remnants of two brick-built pointed barrel-vault profile chambers at cellar level.
