Description
The Ironmonger's Arms is a public house located on the east side of St. John Maddermarket. It dates from the late 17th century, with heightening and an extension added in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is rendered and features pantile roofs, situated on a corner site. It has three storeys and a jettied first floor, along with a single-storey extension.
On the St. John Maddermarket elevation, there are two widely spaced windows on the second floor. The corner entry is flanked by arcaded windows, with carved consoles beneath the jetty. To the left of the St. John Maddermarket window, there is a plain door and a sash window with side-lights at the extreme left. The first floor has three sash windows, while the second floor contains two casement windows. A fascia cornice runs along the building, and the roof is hipped at the corner.
The single-storey extension features a central door with a plain surround and consoles that support a small flat hood, along with flanking arcaded windows.
