Description

This is a group value building comprising numbers 25 to 29 St George’s Street. The building dates to the early 16th century, with later 18th and 19th century additions and alterations to the rear, and 20th century renovations and a north gable. It is a rendered timber-frame building at first floor, with a pantile roof. The building is two storeys high and has five irregularly spaced first floor windows. It features 20th and 19th century shopfronts. Number 29 has "1890" inscribed on a console. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars; one first-floor window is an 18th century mullion and transom design. A central dormer gable containing a casement window was inserted in the 17th century. The presence of two closely spaced wall-posts and tie-beams above the division between numbers 27 and 29 suggests an early 16th century continuation of speculative building development. Number 25 is now offices with a flat above, number 27 is a house, and number 29 is a shop.
