Description
Elmhurst is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of yellow brick with a rendered plinth and features a hipped slate roof. The building has two storeys and a cellar, with three first-floor windows. The bays are defined by brick pilasters that have recessed panels and rendered caps. The centre bay is slightly recessed, while a small blind bay to the left has recessed panels. The entrance features a six-panelled door flanked by single-light windows and topped with an overlight that has interlocking circles and a fretted surround. The porch, supported by pilasters and two pairs of Ionic columns on a raised step, has a plain entablature. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, set under flat gauged brick arches, and there are recessed panels at the first floor. The eaves are adorned with paired modillions. To the right, there is a bow-fronted bay with two first-floor windows above a French window leading to a verandah. A later 19th-century extension is present at the rear. The owner has dated the building to 1823 or 1824 based on deeds.
