Description
No. 5 The Close is a 17th-century building that was once the site of the former Almoners Barn and is now used as offices. It is constructed of red brick with a plain tile roof and features rendered dormers. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys with six bays.
The left-hand side has an off-centre panelled door with a moulded surround and a 19th-century hood above it. To the left of the door is a sash window with glazing bars. At the extreme right, there is a three-light 17th-century window and a door with a plain surround. Above the ground floor, there is a remade moulded brick stringcourse to the left. The first floor has four sash windows with glazing bars on the left and two mullion and transom windows on the right, all featuring raised brick surrounds. A box gutter is supported on iron brackets.
There is a single-storey, two-bay arm that connects the two doors and is positioned at right angles to the main block. This section also includes mullion and transom windows, a moulded cornice, and a hipped roof. Inside, there is a staircase hall with 17th-century panelling and a staircase with turned balusters.
