Description
Bishop Salmon's Porch is a Grade II* listed structure that served as the porch to a former hall, dating back to the early 14th century. It is constructed of stone and stands two storeys tall, although the upper storey is partly in ruins. The porch features two open bays.
On the east facade, there is a central arch with two orders of grouped mouldings and damaged attached shafts that have foliated capitals. This arch is flanked by statue niches. Above the arch, there is a two-light window with side blind arches. The openings to the north and south have steep arches, also with two orders of grouped mouldings on attached shafts with foliated capitals. To the left and right of the west doorway, there are ogee-headed niches. The interior boasts tierceron vaulting with carved bosses, and there are remains of heavy blind arcading over the west archway. The porch is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
