Description

These shops with residential flats above date from the early 19th century. They are built of painted brick, with a black pantile roof. The building is three storeys high and has three bays. The left-hand and central doors are prominent; number 3 has a rectangular fanlight with decorative glazing bars. The shopfronts feature fluted pilasters with rusticated blocks and a dentil architrave. The sash windows have glazing bars; those on the first floor are topped with flat rubbed brick arches, and those on the second floor sit beneath a fascia cornice. The interior retains many original features from the early 19th century, including fielded panelled doors, door surrounds with reeding and decorative paterae, and several wooden fireplace surrounds with fluted columns and cast iron fire grates, featuring anthemion, urn, or floral motifs.
