Description
The building at the rear of Numbers 13 and 15 on St Augustine's Street is a late 16th-century structure that was originally used for an unknown purpose and is now occupied by shops. It is constructed of flint rubble and brick, topped with a pantile roof. The block is set back from the street and runs parallel to it, featuring a wing at the south end that includes a door with moulded jambs. A passage from the 18th century runs through the center of the building, which may indicate an original feature. The building is two stories tall, plus a cellar, and has one first-floor window with a mullion and transom, showcasing ovolo mouldings. The passage is mirrored on the first floor by a small room that has lower tie beams. This block exemplifies one of the variations in the layout of medieval buildings in Norwich.
