Description
The Royal Arcade is a shopping arcade built in 1899 by G.J. Skipper. It features a ceramic tile facing and has slate and plain tile roofs over the shops, while the arcade itself is covered with a glass and timber roof. The building stands three storeys tall and has an arcuated entry adorned with stained glass in the semi-circular top. On either side of the entry, there are bowed shop fronts with three 2-light casements on the first floor. The arcade is topped with a curvilinear pediment. To the left, there is a 20th-century shop front with a two-storey corner oriel above and two 4-light mullion and transom windows on the first floor. A curvilinear pediment is positioned at right angles to the arcade entry. Inside, the two-storey arcade features projecting timber shop fronts.
