Description
First World War memorial cross.
DESCRIPTION: this stone memorial is located on Felbrigg Green, in close proximity to attached cottages at Nos. 14 and 15 The Green (including front garden area walls) (Grade II listed). It comprises a Latin cross with, at the intersection of the cross arms, a sunburst and coronet carved in low relief. At the foot of the cross shaft the inscription VICTORY is carved with the letter âtâ in the form of a cross rising from the moulded foot of the shaft, like a Calvary.
the cross rises from a pedestal, square on plan, that stands on a single step. The top of the pedestal is moulded forming a shouldered blind arch to each face.
INSCRIPTION: the principal dedicatory inscription to the front face of the pedestal reads: TO KEEP IN MEMORY THE/ MEN OF FELBRIGGE/ WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ THEIR NAME LIVETH/ FOR EVERMORE. The dates 1914 â 1918 are recorded on the rear whilst the commemorated names are listed to either side. All the inscriptions are carved in low relief.
The memorial is enclosed by rails carried on four low corner posts.
