Description
Hindolveston War Memorial is a First World War memorial erected in 1921, designed by Messrs’ T H Blythe from Foulsham, Norfolk. It is carved from limestone and is located on the Street in Hindolveston. The memorial features a small Celtic cross on a tapering square shaft. The shaft is chamfered at the top with run-out and bar stops and rises from a square plinth on a two-stepped base. The top corners of the plinth are adorned with flattened ram’s horn spirals.
The front (southwest) face of the plinth is inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 18 THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE." Two additional faces are inscribed with the names of the Fallen.
The memorial stands on a raised corner site and is enclosed by a post and chain fence, with a hedge at the rear. The memorial and its gravel surround are supported by a flint retaining wall.
