Description
Vale Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century and later. It features walls made of flint with brick dressings and a roof covered in red pantiles. The original structure is two storeys high, with a single pile two-storey front added around 1840 to the south. The front has random window placements, mostly featuring 20th-century sash windows with glazing bars. The roof is steeply pitched and has a central stack, with brick coped parapets on both the south and north sides, the latter displaying a renewed diaper pattern on the gable. At the rear, there is an outshut and a two-storey wing made of brick and flint, also with a pantiled roof, positioned at right angles to the main building. The south-facing front has three bays from the 1840 addition, with sash windows under flat rubbed brick arches, and the entrance bay is slightly set forward. The central doorcase has a straight head and a rectangular fan-light above it, with coped parapets on either side. The ends of the earlier house remain visible to the west. Inside, there is a ground floor room featuring a moulded beam and joists, dating from the late 15th or 16th century. The gate piers and the infilling wall that run parallel to Bridge Street are included for their group value.
