Description
Lodge Farmhouse is a house dating from the second half of the 16th century and the 17th century. The walls are made of flint with brick dressings, and the roof is covered with red pantiles. The farmhouse has a T-shaped layout and features two storeys with attics. The northern canted wing and the eastern wing are the earliest parts of the house, dating back to the late 16th century. A two-storey, four-bay section was added in the 17th century.
The house has sash windows with plate glass, including an arched window above the door, a tripartite sash, and a panelled door case with reveals and a half canopy. There are also two arched lights flanking a four-panelled door, all of which are details from the late 19th century. Random brick surrounds indicate where former brick mullioned windows were located. The southern gable features a kneeler and a brick parapet that is coped. There are two moulded brick stacks, one on the southern side and another on the part wall with the northern wing.
The northern wing has a brick string course marking the plinth and features one bay with two storeys and two tripartite windows. The northern gable has kneelers and a brick-coped parapet, with an external chimney that projects from the gable. The chimney is made of flint at the ground floor and brick above, with a moulded brick string course and tumbled angles, dating to the 17th century. There are two attic gable windows on either side of the flue.
The western wing, which is at the rear, is of similar date and has a projecting chimney, with flint at the ground floor and brick dressing, along with a moulded brick string course, angles, and a parapet (with a later stack). The gables feature flint with brick quoins, and there are fireplace windows at the first floor and in the gable attics, the latter of which are partly filled in by the chimney. There are also outshuts to the single pile frontage, including a two-storey, flint pantiled wing to the south.
