Description
The Glandford and Bayfield War Memorial is located beside the path leading from the road to the churchyard of the Church of St Martin, just outside the churchyard gate. This tall granite memorial features a Latin cross with a depiction of the crucifixion, standing on a square, four-stepped base. The figure of Christ is carved in the round and is shown making the sign of blessing. The surfaces of the cross are roughly stippled.
On the second step of the base, there are inscriptions in incised lettering that read: "IN MEMORY OF ALL THOSE WHO GAVE/ UP THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR KING AND/ COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-18/ HOLY JESU HAVE MERCY ON THEIR SOULS." Most of the letters are filled with a black material, while some words feature red initials.
