Description
The barn at Newgate Farm, dating from the 18th century, is located approximately 40 meters northeast of Newgate Farmhouse. It is constructed from coursed flint with some brick and features brick dressings and an asbestos roof. The barn has five bays, with the roof over the end one and a half bays to the right rebuilt at a lower pitch. There is a brick-capped flint plinth, and the eaves courses have been rebuilt in brick. The south side has a large central opening and four windows, one in each bay. The left gable and the higher right gable are weather-boarded. The north front has no door and features four vertical slits. Inside, the barn has a three-tier butt purlin roof with collars and struts from the tie beams. The timbers at the left end of the barn have been renewed, including the king posts. This barn is included for its group value.
