Description
Swanton Gate Lodge, built around 1810, is a gate lodge made of stuccoed brick with a slated roof. It stands two storeys high and features three bays on both the east and west facades. The south front has two ground floor and two first floor sash windows, each with glazing bars; the ground floor windows are two panes high, while the first floor windows have one pane each. The central entrance is recessed and has a segmental arch with a fluted wooden door case, which holds a two-part, six-panel raised and fielded door. The lodge is adorned with deep wooden modillion eaves on all four sides. The east front faces the park and includes a central wooden portico supported by paired Tuscan Doric columns and pilasters, along with a simplified entablature featuring modillions and a pediment. The roof is hipped and has a central gault brick chimney stack. Attached to the northeast is a wall made of pebble flint dressed with gault brick, which shares architectural details with the stable block dated 1810 and the Church lodge.
