Description

Swanton Novers House is a late 18th-century house constructed of red brick with red pantiled roofs. It features a two-storey double pile plan, partly with attics. The garden front has two storeys and follows a 2-2-1 bay system. On the north side, there are two ground floor and two first floor sash windows with glazing bars. The south side includes a ground floor French door with glazing bars and margin lights, along with one first floor sash window. The central bays are slightly projected, featuring a ground floor brick bow with end pilasters, two sashes, a moulded cornice, and a leaded roof. The first floor has two sashes with glazing bars and a central oculus window, with all windows except the oculus set under flat rubbed brick arches. An attic moulded brick string course supports a coped parapet with a hipped roof behind, along with one ridge stack, one end gable stack, and one stack in the valley between the two piles.

There is a two-storey brick and pantiled wing with a curved bowed corner to the north, dating from around 1900. The south entrance front is characterized by the returned gables of the two piles, featuring a ground floor tripartite sash and a first floor oriel window with moulded brick corbelling courses of earlier brick, as well as a three-light central sash with canted margin lights. To the north, there is a ground floor 19th-century porch supported by two round brick piers. The eastern pile has a five-bay facade, two storeys with attics, and sash windows with glazing bars. At right angles to the north, there is a gabled wing from the 18th century with "I D" purlin irons, along with 20th-century service wings to the north.
