Description
Letheringsett Watermill is a working watermill located over the River Glaven, built in 1802. The structure is made of brick and covered with black glazed pantiles, standing four storeys tall with three gabled bays on both the east and west sides.
On the east facade, there is a central door at the ground and first floors, flanked by two blank windows on the second floor. The north and south facades feature three wide bays, with two sluice arches located under the western bay. Each facade has three recessed panels that contain windows with stone sills; the ground and first floor windows have cast iron glazing bars adorned with Tudor rose bosses, and the top third of these windows is hinged from the top. The second and third floor windows have flush sashes with glazing bars.
The west facade includes wooden spouts situated between the gables, a wheel opening on the ground floor, and two blank windows on either side of the second floor, with one blank window in the center of the third floor.
Inside, the water wheel and driving mechanisms were restored to working order in 1983. The combined breast and undershot iron water wheel is approximately 2.5 meters wide and features iron bucket paddle blades, along with two sets of stones.
