Description
The summerhouse located at TG 0636 3895 in the grounds of Letheringsett Hall is a rustic structure from the mid-19th century. It is made of burr oak, much of which still retains its bark, and features a reed thatched roof. The building is a rectangular single cell with a semi-circular open front supported by rustic oak piers. The walls are constructed from half oak logs, and the gable to the east has a wall made of decorative geometrically arranged stripped sticks. There is a Y-tracery window made of curved oak branches, although the 15th-century glass was removed around 1958 to be placed in the Church of St. Andrew.
Inside, the walls and roof are lined with reeds that are battened with hazel and willow, and there is fircone decoration along with a frieze of split willow. The interior also includes a continuous wood bench and a floor made of cross-grained oak blocks.
