Description
The bridge across the River Glaven on the A148 road was built in 1818 and designed by William Hardy of Letheringsett Hall, who lived from 1770 to 1842. It is constructed from cast iron and gault brick. The upstream and downstream facades feature a segmental arch made of gault brick, topped with a stepped string of dark glazed chamfered brick. The parapet consists of stout cast iron vase balusters with cast iron coping, positioned between two oblong brick piers that have double iron caps. In the center of each parapet on both sides, there is a cast iron plaque that reads "1818 / ERECTED / BY / SUBSCRIPTION / UNDER THE PLAN / AND / DIRECTION / OF W.H." The upstream parapet on the south side has splay walls made of dark knapped flint with stone coping, each ending in an oblong brick pier with a double cast iron cap.
