Description
This is a bridge built in the late 18th century, located 90 meters north of Avington House in the Itchen Valley. It is made of cast iron and features bronze decoration. The bridge has a depressed arch supported by three girders, with cross bracing on each side and at the center, as well as along the curve of the arch. The outer girders are adorned with a decorated skirting that includes bronze heads. The parapets are designed with linked circles of iron, secured by bronze clamps, and topped with an iron railing. At both ends, the railings extend outwards to barley-sugar shaped newels. Iron transverse beams outline the steps, which have cast iron grills for treads.
