Description
Stanhoe and Barwick War Memorial is situated at The Green, just north-east of the pond. It consists of a three-stage stone pillar, which is rectangular in shape and tapers slightly from the lower stage to the upper stage. The upper stage is topped with a cap. Surrounding the memorial are four low, pyramidal posts that support pairs of horizontal metal rails.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the upper stage reads: "THIS MEMORIAL IS ERECTED IN HONOUR OF THE INHABITANTS OF STANHOE & BARWICK WHO SERVED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918." Below this, on the middle stage, the inscription continues: "AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THESE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES THEREIN" followed by 20 names, and "1939 – 1945" with 3 names. Additional lists of names are recorded on either side below the inscription "THOSE WHO SERVED."
