Description

This is a mid-18th century barn, built of red brick in English bond, with red pantile roofs. It comprises two three-bay threshing barns joined together, with projecting outshuts to the east and west. The east side features a central 18th century brick outshut, flanked by two cart entrances set between pilaster strips. The outer bays have two ground-floor and two first-floor honeycomb brick ventilation openings, each under a segmental brick arch. The north-east facade is partially obscured by 20th-century additions. The building's facades are detailed with a ground-floor plinth, a first-floor platband, and a four-course moulded brick eaves cornice. The north and south gables each have two ground-floor, two first-floor, and one attic honeycomb brick arched ventilation windows. Other details include a brick tumbling, a brick-coped parapet, a blank apex opening in the north gable, and a stone datestone with initials in the south gable. The west side is similar to the east, with a centrally located outshut that has been extended. The roof is a multi-bay butt-purlin design with tie beams supported on wall posts, incorporating struts, arched wind bracing, and upper collars. The architectural details are associated with Robert Glover, who also designed Barmer Farm barn, Bagthorpe with Barmer, and Barwick House and outbuildings, Barwick.
