Description

The Grange is a house dating from about 1830. It is constructed of gault brick with a slate roof. The main part of the house has two storeys and three bays, with a three-window double-pile north service wing. The front facade features two ground floor sash windows with glazing bars, set under flat, rubbed brick arches within semi-circular, rubbed brick arched recesses. Above them are three first floor sash windows, similarly detailed. The central bay projects slightly. The front door is recessed within a rubbed brick semi-circular arch. The doorcase has a flush architrave recessed within the brick arch, with wooden raised and fielded reveals and intrados. The door itself is raised and fielded, with a simple arched fanlight above. Pilaster strips flank the doorway with recessed centre panels. A deep projecting Tuscan eaves cornice runs along the top. The roof is hipped, with two chimney stacks. The east and west returns have a single bay each. On the east face of the north service wing are two ground floor and two first floor sash windows with glazing bars, set under flat, rubbed brick arches, alongside a ground floor glazed door. This door has its own pilaster doorcase with a pentice canopy and a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight.
