Description

The remains of the Chapter House of the Priory of St. Mary and All Saints are located 50 metres east of Abbey Farmhouse in West Acre. This structure dates back to the 12th century and is of Norman origin. It was rebuilt in the 13th century after a fire in 1286 and features a vaulted ceiling that was completed around 1300. The remains are constructed from flint with some stone dressings, and only the angle of the building survives today. The site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County Number 170. For further information, refer to F.H. Fairweather and H.L. Bradfer-Lawrence's work on the Priory published in Norfolk Archaeology in 1929.
