Description
Abbey Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with additions and details from around 1900. It may incorporate earlier elements from the monastic remains of the Priory of St. Mary and All Saints. The building is constructed of red brick and features slate roofs. It has two storeys and consists of three or more sections.
The eastern garden front has a two-window range with one ground floor and two first floor sash windows that have glazing bars, along with one ground floor French door. The returned gable wing, which is off-center, includes one ground floor and two first floor sash windows with glazing bars, plus one part glazed door. The center section features a c.1900 ground floor canted bow addition with three plate glass sashes, a first floor tripartite window, and one single sash window with glazing bars, along with one part glazed door.
The c.1900 addition at the west end has one ground floor and one first floor sash window with glazing bars. There is a hipped gabled advance bay that includes a ground floor c.1900 canted bow addition with three plate glass sashes and a first floor Venetian window with sashes and glazing bars under rubbed arches. The building also features a c.1900 wooden modillion eaves cornice and has one gable stack at the east, one at the south, one at the west end, and one ridge stack, all with diamond pattern shafts from around 1900. The rear of the east range has an outshut roof, and there is a second pile at the rear center that includes reused masonry in the west gable.
