Description

The Old Post Office, including Australian House, is a range of two houses and a shop located on the south side of High Street. This building dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of whitewashed brick and carstone, topped with pantiled roofs.

The house to the east of Australian House features two storeys and three bays. It has a central 20th-century door beneath a pedimented hood, with one 20th-century window on each side. The first floor has three 18th-century casement windows. The gable heads are adorned with a low parapet on kneelers, and the gabled roof has internal end stacks.

Australian House also consists of two storeys and three bays. It has a central door located behind a 20th-century lattice porch. There is one segmental-headed 18th-century casement window on either side of the door, with three additional casements on the first floor, all under flat heads. The gabled roof of Australian House is continuous with the shop to its right.

The shop, located to the west of Australian House, is two storeys high and consists of one bay. It features a full-width double-fronted shop facade with a panelled door and a five-vaned fanlight above. There is one 18th-century casement window on the upper floor. The gabled roof is hipped at the west end, returning into Swan Lane.
