Description

Nelson House, Pump Cottage, and Nelson Cottage are three houses arranged in an L-shaped block, dating from around 1600. Originally timber framed, they were replaced by brick in the 18th century. The west wall is made of carstone with Barnack quoins, and the roofs are covered with pantiles.

The south range is two storeys high and features a central panelled door, with a three-light diamond mullion window set within a sunk quadrant surround on the west wall. There are also three flat-headed casements on the first floor, and the gabled roof has been rebuilt with multiple flued diamond stacks.

The east range is also two storeys tall with a dormer attic, containing two doorways and eight windows of various styles, including four 17th-century leaded casements. The roof has four flat dormers, is gabled, and hipped to the south, with a rebuilt ridge stack and wall stack.

Inside the eastern part, known as Nelson House, there is a winder staircase and bridging beams with ogee stops. A pair of jointed crucks can be found on the first floor, and the roof structure is early 18th century, featuring one tier of staggered purlins and one tier of butt purlins.
