Description

This barn, dating from around 1700, is located approximately 30 meters north of Tower Farmhouse. It is constructed of carstone with brick dressings and features a pantile roof. The barn has three sections with a steeply pitched roof and gable parapets. The north facade includes a central extended porch, a lean-to on the left, and an outshut on the right, all made of galleted coursed carstone and pantiles. The gable ends to the east and west have galleted coursed carstone at the bottom, with shell carstone above, and brick tumbling in. Each gable features a three-quarter disc gable finial made of brick. The west gable has an eroded datestone and a single ventilation slit, while the east gable has three ventilation slits below and a square opening above. The south facade faces the yard and has a central extended porch with shell carstone at the front and galleted coursed carstone on the sides, along with added outshuts. Inside, there is a braced king post roof that was renewed in the 19th century, and the walls have been raised in brick, with some 17th-century brick visible in the lower doorway jambs on the north side. Attached to the southwest corner is a ramped carstone wall leading to the yard. This barn is included for its group value.
