Description
This building is a barn, originally a gatehouse, located 110 meters north of St. Mary's Church. It dates from the late 15th century and is constructed of ashlar and brick with a slate roof. The barn is a two-storey rectangular structure featuring a central door on the west face, which is lined with brick. To the left, there are blocked 2-light and 4-light arched and cusped windows within square surrounds, and to the right, there is a blocked 2-light mullion window. The hipped roof extends to the right over a staircase bay.
On the east side, there is a central gateway flanked by two octagonal corner turrets, each topped with finials. To the right and left of the gateway, there are blocked 2-light mullioned windows under moulded square hoods, with one window retaining a lancet. The roof was replaced in the late 20th century. Inside, there is evidence of a fireplace, stairs, and the division of rooms. The building is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
