Description
The former Town Hall in New Hunstanton, dated 1896, was designed by architects CJ and FW Skipper. It is built from carstone rubble with squared dressings and features tiled roofs. The building has a two-storey tripartite facade and a single-storey hall at the rear. The facade is in the late Victorian Jacobethan style, with a central two-bay gabled section and slightly recessed single-bay wings.
On the ground floor, there is a central door flanked by two single-light casement windows. The first floor features a central four-light window and two flanking two-light arched-headed cross windows, separated by thin pilasters with console bases and an entablature above. The gable includes a clock set within a strap work surround, topped with stone coping and a strap work finial. The outer bays have a single ground floor cross window and a first-floor three-light mullioned and transomed window. The returned gables also have stone coping and apex finials.
The building has two ridge stacks, and the south gable includes a two-storey bow window projection and a five-sided two-storey porch with a conical roof and wooden cupola. At the rear, there is an eight-bay hall with large mullioned and transomed windows, a lead and wooden cupola on the ridge, and a gabled porch.
