Description
The Lighthouse, located on Lighthouse Lane in New Hunstanton, is a former lighthouse with attached cottages, dating from around 1830. It is constructed of rendered stuccoed brick with slated roofs. The lighthouse features a circular, battered tower inspired by classical design, rising four storeys high. At the base, there is a coat of arms, and each floor has a single round-headed window. Massive modillion blocks serve as brackets for a gallery, which is surrounded by an iron balcony encircling a canted top-storey that has a 20th-century termination above.
To the north of the lighthouse is a cottage, which was originally balanced by another cottage to the south that has since been demolished. This cottage is designed in a Gothick style, featuring a two-storey gable with a ground-floor pedimented bay window and a first-floor cross window with a drip mould. The cottage has had 20th-century casements inserted. It also includes kneelers and coped parapets, and the roof has been replaced, with the stacks to the north cut down. A door with rusticated dressings connects the cottage to the lighthouse.
