Description

This is a former public house, dating from the 18th century, located on School Road in Great Massingham. It consists of two buildings: The Swan Inn (number 5) and the attached Osterville (number 3).

The Swan Inn is constructed of painted brickwork with a red pantiled roof. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The ground floor features two wooden-framed arched windows with three lights each, while the first floor has two three-light casements and one two-light casement. All windows are divided by mullions and transoms. A six-panel raised and fielded door is topped by an arched fanlight, with steps and railings leading to it. The steeply pitched roof has two end stacks.

The attached Osterville is rendered with painted plaster and has a red pantiled roof. The south gable has a single casement window on both the ground and first floors, topped with a hipped roof. The north side features a single ground floor casement window arranged as a cross window, along with two first floor casements. A moulded doorcase with brackets and a pentice shelters a part-glazed four-panel door.
