Description
Western House is a house that dates from the late 17th century and was remodelled and extended in the 19th century. It features a front made of gault brick, with red brick and flint on the sides, topped with a 20th-century tile roof and brick ridge stacks. The house has two storeys and a two-window range of 8/8 unhorned sashes, with wood lintels above the first floor windows and gauged brick lintels over the ground floor windows. There is a plinth, a storey band, and dentilled eaves. The entrance is located in a lean-to extension at the right end of the building.
Inside, the ground floor includes bridging beams with ogee and notch stops on the chamfers. It has heavy joists laid flat with wide boards above. The first floor features a fireplace with a brick basket arch, and to the left, there is a decorative panel with foliage, birds, and sunbursts in various colours. The attic contains a similar small fireplace, which is now blocked, and a four-bay roof with two tiers of butt purlins and upper collars, although some lower collars have been removed.
