Description

Nos. 12 and 14 High Street is a row of cottages, now used as a single residence, dating from the 18th century. The building features a flint plinth, red brick walls, and a red pantiled roof. It is primarily single storey with four windows on the eastern side, while the western section is two storeys with attics. The eastern range has two three-light and one two-light cast-iron casements from the 19th century, along with one two-light casement. The boarded door and all openings are set under cambered brick arches. The two-storey range on the west side includes two ground floor and one first floor two-light wooden casements with glazing bars, and has a dentil eaves cornice. There are three dormer windows featuring two-light cast-iron casements. The roof is steeply pitched with two end stacks and one ridge stack. The single storey with attic extension on the east has one ground floor three-light and one two-light cast-iron casement under cambered brick arches, as well as one dormer with a two-light cast-iron casement. The architectural details indicate that these were formerly cottages of the Holkham Estate.
