Description
No. 144 King Street is a shop with accommodation above, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features 20th-century concrete pantiles. The building has four storeys and a two-window range. The right-hand bay includes a canted window bay that extends to the full height from the first floor. The ground-floor shop front, dating from the early 20th century, has a central entrance flanked by plate-glass display windows. Above the shop front, the bay features 8/8 and 4/4 unhorned sash windows, while the top floor has 4/4 and 3/3 sashes. The side bay contains a 6/6 unhorned sash window on both the first and second floors, set under gauged skewback arches, and a 3/3 sash on the top floor. The building is topped with a modillion eaves cornice and has a hipped roof with a rendered stack on the rear slope. There is also a cross-wing at the rear.
