Description

This is a late 18th-century house, now used as offices, located on King Street in Great Yarmouth. The house is built of red brick in a mix of Flemish and header bond, with pantile roofs. It is three storeys high and has a two-window front, with a wide segmental bow on the right-hand side. The bow’s brickwork is in header bond, while the rest of the front is in Flemish bond. The ground floor of the bow has three late 19th-century sash windows with two panes per sash. The upper two floors each have three 8/8 sash windows, also without horns. A late 20th-century door is set within a late 18th-century doorcase featuring a pair of engaged fluted columns with acanthus capitals, supporting a block entablature and an open pediment. The door has panelled reveals and a plain fanlight, lacking glazing bars. Late 18th-century iron railings with square-section vertical bars, obelisk finials and a swept top rail, terminate on circular standards set on concrete plinths. The first and second floors above the door each have an 8/8 sash window with a gauged skewback arch. A decorative cornice with modillions and dentils runs along the eaves. The roof is constructed of two ranges of pantiles, each with an internal gable-end stack to the north. The front of the property has a pitched gable, while the rear has a Mansard roof. The ground floor interior has been significantly altered, although a stick-baluster staircase with turned newels remains. First-floor doors are surrounded by reeded mouldings.
