Description

A cartshed dating from the mid to late 18th century, with a re-roofing in the mid-19th century. It was built for the Walpole family. The cartshed is constructed of brick, incorporating vitrified bricks in the walling, and has a thatched roof. The front (west) elevation features a single-storey, open-fronted design with seven bays. The right-hand bay is enclosed by an original brick dividing wall, incorporating a pair of double doors. The right-hand gable has been considerably rebuilt. Internally, the roof is supported by trusses with nailed, lapped and dovetailed collars, rough-hewn tie beams, and butt-purlins. Some re-used timbers are present, including two queen struts. The cartshed is part of a group with the nearby stock house and barn.
