Description
Walpole Cottage and Pump Cottage are a pair of estate cottages built in the late 19th century. They are constructed of red brick with gault brick dressings and feature a thatched roof. The cottages have a cruciform plan and are 1½ storeys high, with a two-storey porch. The facade facing the road includes a gabled porch and a cross wing gable, separated by a flank wall that has a gabled dormer. Each bay has one window, and the porch entrance is framed with a stone lintel supported by corbel blocks, topped with a brick hood mould. Inside the porch is a boarded door. The cottages feature 2 and 3-light casement windows with decorative frames, glazing bars, and brick hood moulds. The gables have parapets with brick kneelers. A central axial stack is made up of four square shafts, and there is an end stack at the north end. Above the entrance doors, there is a V.W. monogram for Vade-Walpole. The cottages are included for their group value.
